I told them I spoke to so and so on the phone and he looked at like AND? So I do that and when I get there the guy there tells me NO, since the membership expired then they can't rotate my tires anymore. I tried to get my tires rotated after that and the guy I spoke to on the phone said I could bring in my original receipt and they would help me. Michelin ought to be taken to task for this as well. Costco could require Michelin to uphold the advertised warranty as a "benefit" of membership at no cost to them. It seems like Costco is passing the responsibility for working the squeeze on their paying membership off to Michelin as the "bad guy" to give them an easy excuse not to uphold the warranty. Most people with advertising stickers on their car are like me - using their personal vehicle with normal or less than normal mileage.

I lose my warranty on premium Michelin tires because I have a sticker on my car? What if I put the sticker on the day after I get my new tires, then I get the warranty? This exclusion is not advertised nor posted anywhere in the purchase agreement and is prejudiced against small business owners who use their personal vehicles for free advertising while they are out and about. I can understand if the business is a taxi or delivery service and racks up tons of miles, but in this economy the majority of people have some type of home-based business. People like me often end up driving less than those with "regular" jobs because we are not commuting every day. Costco is one of the biggest distributors of Michelin tires in the US and Canada and Costco makes a huge portion of its money on members who have home business.
When I tried to explain this I was told the there is nothing they can do about it because Michelin "dictates" their policy.
As I was signing the final paperwork to proceed, I was told in an off-hand, oh-by-the-way manner that the 65K warranty on my new tires would not be upheld by Michelin because my car is a "business vehicle." When I asked how this conclusion was reached, the clerk referred to stickers I have on my back window advertising my home-based business. On 12/1/09 I went in for new tires on my car.
